The Love That Keeps Me Learning: My Sister and the Heart Behind Legends of Hope
When I look at pictures of my sister, I see someone I love and miss. I also remember how much she struggled—and how much of that struggle I didn’t understand at the time.
Every time I turned around, there was a new supplement. She was searching for something that might help her feel better. Looking back, I think about the hope she must have carried each time she tried something new.
Back then, I didn’t fully understand her sleepless nights. I didn’t know how exhausting it could be to keep searching for comfort while trying to carry on with everyday life.
Sometimes I wish I had asked more questions. Sometimes I wish I had simply sat beside her longer and listened.
Looking Back With Different Eyes
Through studying, becoming a Certified Naturopathy Practitioner, and creating Legends of Hope, I have become more curious about how we care for our bodies.
Now, I look at my sister’s pictures with different eyes. I notice small changes and wonder how she was feeling in those moments. A photograph cannot tell me what was happening inside her body, but it reminds me that we don’t always see everything someone is carrying.
I cannot know whether anything I have learned would have changed her story. Still, there are moments when I wish I could go back with the understanding—and the questions—I have today.
The Questions That Became Legends of Hope
Legends of Hope began with one simple question:
How can the body do what it was designed to do—naturally?
For my family, that question began with dry, uncomfortable skin and the desire to offer gentle care. My kitchen became a place of learning, blending, observing, and trying again.
Inspired by Nigerian wellness traditions, I began exploring oils and shea butter as ways to moisturize and care for the skin, hair, and scalp.
Over time, those questions reached beyond skincare. I became more interested in the food I prepared, the nutrients it provided, and how the body digests and absorbs what we eat.
I’m not a doctor, and I’m still learning. My education has deepened my curiosity and encouraged me to be more thoughtful about everyday care.
Care in the Everyday
Today, I bring that attention into my home: how I prepare meals, how I store food, how I care for my children’s skin, and how closely I listen when someone says they don’t feel well.
I am learning to make room for questions:
What feels comforting? What needs attention? When do we need help?
For me, caring for my family includes nourishment, rest, gentle routines, and seeking medical care when it is needed. It also means remembering that someone can be struggling even when they cannot fully explain what they feel.
My sister’s memory reminds me to listen with more patience.
Carrying Her Love Forward
Sometimes I wish I had learned these lessons sooner.
Grief has a way of bringing us back to what we wish we had known, said, or done. I am learning to meet those thoughts with tenderness. I loved my sister with the understanding I had then. I carry that love with the understanding I have now.
That love is part of the heart behind Legends of Hope. It lives in the intention behind what I handcraft and in my desire to help others make space for everyday care.
Pain has shaped part of my understanding. Love keeps me learning.
And as I continue building Legends of Hope, I carry my sister with me.
